Kabini’s history is enlightening! It was transformed from a hunting ground to a beautiful wildlife haven. In ancient times, it was a private hunting ground or reserve of Mysore’s Maharaja. Both Indian viceroys and Indian royalty came here for hunting purposes. However, later, when the conservation of wildlife became a necessity, the transformation of the area started! The private preserve was first converted into a sanctuary and then a stunning national park, which you can visit today.
Kabini is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts with impressive and diverse species. The national park is known for sightings of elephants and tigers, usually in herds. If you are lucky, you may also spot a few leopards. The other animals you will witness here include sloth bears, gaurs, deer, and the ever-mischievous monkeys!
If you are a bird lover, you can see many here, like ospreys, kingfishers, and the national bird of India—peacocks. Take a safari here to see the rich biodiversity, which also includes sighting sleeping crocodiles on the river bank.
